Heartbeat of the Hub #1: Meet Sammy

The journey to enhance and resume service delivery at the Integrated Care Hub (ICH) was, just like the services we provide, a collaborative effort. We are grateful for the support of our staff and ICH community want to recognize some of the many powerful people, events, and moments that have capture the spirit, passion and commitment we see every day at the ICH. Please join us in learning more about the Heartbeat of the Hub.

Heartbeat of the Hub Spotlight 1: Sammy Pelletier

Sammy Pelletier’s journey is truly inspiring. As someone who previously accessed the services of the ICH, he has made remarkable progress.  Through determination and a deep connection to his culture, he has not only overcome personal challenges but has also stepped into the role of a Medicine Man, guiding others on their healing paths.

Sammy is currently a resident of the AMHS Stabilization Program. His journey of healing and spiritual growth to become a Medicine Man began under the guidance of Richard S. at Rainbow Lodge in Wikwemikong. With Richard’s blessings, Sammy embraced this journey, understanding it was his to walk.

Today, he continues his practice with the support of Linda G., his main Elder at the Friendship Centre in Kingston. Over the past two and a half years, he has deepened his connection to traditional teachings and spiritual healing.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Sammy for leading a private smudging ceremony at the Integrated Care Hub last fall.

His presence was especially meaningful, as he had a personal connection to the tragic events of September 12, 2024, and knew those affected. Through his cultural knowledge and support, he has helped our community process and heal from its impact.

For his ceremony, Sammy used all four sacred medicines, with cedar playing a key role. Cedar is a powerful cleansing medicine—its smoke clears negative energy, ensuring it cannot remain in the space.

Sammy shares that the land holds residual spiritual energy, particularly in places of loss or desecration, such as burial grounds. Some believe this energy can be unsettled, especially when a person has passed from violence or when sacred ground has been disturbed. Smudging is a sacred practice that helps free these spirits, cleanse the space, and bring peace to those who visit. Each time smudging is performed, the lingering negative energy dissipates further, making way for healing and positivity.

The smudging ceremony he led brought peace, reflection, and a sense of unity to everyone involved. His story represents the purpose of the Integrated Care Hub—a space where people find the support they need to heal and grow.

Sammy, we are honoured by your presence and deeply grateful for the wisdom and spirit you have shared with us. We are proud of everything you have accomplished and look forward to witnessing your continued journey.

Thank you for being a beacon of hope and healing.
